Kutztown University Recieves $25,000 to Support Students in Need
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – (June 1, 2021) – Kutztown University Foundation was awarded a $25,000 grant from the Wyomissing Foundation to expand Kutztown University’s Providing Resources and Opportunities for Future Standouts (PROFS) program to serve eight additional students.
PROFS is a one-of-a-kind support program for students who are current or former members of the foster care system. To show dedication to successful students in foster care, PROFS provides college access programs, such as college prep and financial knowledge workshops, for high school students and connects Kutztown University students to the campus resources to help them succeed. The PROFS program encourages students to reach their potential and be a positive example for others who have also gone through the system.
“We are grateful for the support of the Wyomissing Foundation,” said Alex Ogeka, executive director of the Kutztown University Foundation. “This generous gift allows us to expand the PROFS program and its ongoing impact – and hopefully, it will encourage others to donate to further extend assistance to students in need.”
The PROFS expansion will focus on a new population of Berks County students, including those who are homeless, have no family support, and/or are food insecure. While federal and state grants help cover tuition costs for some of these students, PROFS addresses their basic needs and provides comprehensive, necessary supports for personal, academic, and career development.
