As a student, Jason Barkley ’91, M ’93 was on KU’s cross country, track, and golf teams, served on the student government board, was a member of a fraternity, and worked “downtown” (at Mamma’s and Dr. Roberts) to help pay his bills.

“My time spent in athletics at KU was very important in shaping who I am as a person,” said Barkley. “I relish the experiences, memories, and friendships from my time in KU athletics.”

Even today, Barkley remains active at his alma mater. He serves as an Alumni Representative on the KUSSI board, attends many of the “KU Presents” performances with his wife, Dr. Laura Sherrod (a geology professor at KU), cheers on the Golden Bears at many sporting events, and volunteers in other ways whenever an opportunity presents.

Supporting KU financially is also a high priority for Barkley and Sherrod. In addition to making annual gifts, they recently established the Jason Barkley ’91 & ’93 Endowed Scholarship.

“It is great to know that we created a scholarship that will benefit KU student-athletes both now and long after we are gone,” said Barkley. “It is VERY satisfying. Giving feels good!”
