Convos Beyond KU

Convos Beyond KU is a program designed for alumni to share their post-graduate stories directly with current students as an assignment in ENV220 and ENV380—Environmental Analysis with Dr. Julie Palkendo and Senior Seminar with Dr. Chris Habeck, respectively.

During a three-week window, students will connect with and interview matched alumni and then share the stories gathered with the larger class.

Information

Students in ENV220 and ENV380 are searching for Environmental Science alumni to share how they are using their KU degrees in the field.

Students will select alumni from a list that includes a job title and a short description of their current career or occupation.

Each alumni volunteer will have no more than two students calling them during the three weeks. ONLY the student who signed up to talk with you will receive your contact information.

If mutually agreeable, current students will contact alumni volunteers for 15-minute conversations, either over the phone or via video conference. These conversations will be represented in one PowerPoint slide shared with the class. This allows students to speak directly with KU alumni from a field that interests them.

Because environmental science careers are so diverse, the student presentations will help educate classmates on fields they might not have previously considered. Students will also be tasked with reflecting on the information shared by classmates and how this assignment most impacted them.

Students will call between March 4 and March 24. Again, only contact information shared directly with this program will be given to the student who specifically signs up for each alumni.

Students will reach out through the contact information shared, and conversations will be over the phone or via video conference. Conversations are planned for no more than 15 minutes.

Students benefit greatly from direct connections with alumni. By opening up these opportunities, students can see the impact a KU degree has post-graduation. Experiences shared by Kutztown University alumni offer a unique conversation only fellow Golden Bears can provide.
